WHY THE STOCK MARKET MATTERS

  • 15.2% of American families directly own stock.

This does not include American families' stock exposure through a retirement account like a 401 (k).

52.6% of Americans have stock exposure. Direct stock ownership means you are the shareholder, and the investment is accessible to you for immediate liquidation, meaning you can sell your stocks at any time, unlike a retirement account, where you will be penalized if you cash out before retirement age.

Stock exposure through a retirement account, like a 401(k), does not give you the same power and control as direct ownership.

  • The wealthiest 1% directly own 53% of stocks.
  • The wealthiest 10% directly own 88.6% of stocks.

What do they know that we don’t know? Why are we continuously discouraged from owning stocks, yet all of our retirement accounts have exposure to stocks?

  • White Americans own 89.1% of stocks.
  • Black Americans own .7% of stocks.
  • Hispanic Americans own .7% of stocks.
  • Other Americans own 9.5% of stocks.

I get it. It's difficult to start investing when little to no financial literacy is shared in our homes and schools. I must admit that it feels like we don't have access to this knowledge by design. Not to mention, Women are hit the hardest when making money and building generational wealth, as we face the most significant disparity in equal pay. White women earn 84 cents for every dollar a white man makes; meanwhile, black women earn 63 cents. Latina women earn 54 cents. Native American women earn 60 cents, and Asian women earn closer to white men, with 85 cents, though they still face a gap.

WHAT IS THE STOCK MARKET

In its simplest form, the stock market is a space where we purchase a small portion of a publicly traded company. Warren Buffett refers to this as the opportunity to own a piece of America. If the company continues to succeed in business, not only does it make more money, but our investment in that company also makes money. Most people feel overwhelmed by what companies to begin investing in. However, we have a strong understanding of which social media apps to use and for what purposes, which tech to purchase to improve our quality of life, and where to purchase high-quality groceries or groceries in bulk. In most cases, the companies we purchase products and services from are publicly traded. At the same time, most people fear the market.

I believe that we should fear NOT owning the market.

It is time to become owners of the companies we are loyal to, rather than just being consumers.

Let’s take ownership of America.

The American system takes ownership of us.

 Money Wounds

This is why we tackle them.

A child's critical brain development begins in the womb and continues through age 7. As children of immigrants, we have developed under strained circumstances, fears about obtaining work, and a deep scarcity mindset, as every penny mattered and contributed to food on the table and a bill in our homes. For most of us, our understanding of money is misconstrued, making us emotionally more attached to it than we need to be. This type of toxic relationship towards money keeps us from being able to use it as the tool it was intended to be.

Part of your investing journey should involve healing.

This is why we have dedicated the first section of the course to money wounds. Many of us don’t even know we have them. There is a lack of understanding that the emotions we feel towards money are toxic and control how we live our lives. We tie so much of our emotional happiness to what we have externally, and once we achieve something, we seek another external goal to make us happy. It is a never-ending void. The idea that more money will make us happy is a false belief. While money makes our lives so much easier and can bring happiness through the freedom, experiences, and options it provides, it is the relationship we have with money that is important to pay attention to. There is such a thing as a toxic money relationship that can produce so much unhappiness and toxic dependency, driving us to do things we hate just to accumulate money. The practice of investing helps us to change this relationship and become self-aware of our feelings towards money. As well as the understanding that money creates more money. So many of us have a false understanding that working creates more money. There is a biblical verse that we often misinterpret: "Money is the root of all evil." The actual verse is that "for the love of money is the root of all evil. Meaning doing absolutely anything just for money can lead us toward a very unfulfilling life.

The course will not only help you understand how to begin investing in the market, but it will also begin to shift your relationship with money.

The Power of the Stock Market

  • Every day your money sits in a savings account, it becomes worth less.
  • In 2025, the stock market rose 16%, outperforming your savings account.
  • There is no minimum dollar amount required to start investing.
  • We need to not only grow our capital but also preserve it.
  • It is what the top 10% do with their money.
  • Investing is the only way we will be able to build generational wealth.
  • Not everybody has great credit and a down payment for a house.
  • You can start as a DACA recipient with an ITIN number.
  • We should have more assets than liabilities; stock is a way to own assets.
  • We need to begin owning the companies we consume.

The Power of This Course

Wealth Warrior: The Course is very easy to understand. I created it based on my perspective and level of understanding when I first started investing, which was at ground zero. Honestly, I started at a negative or below ground zero. I am terrible at math, which felt like such an essential factor (it’s not), and then add on my toxic relationship with money, and forget about trying to learn the stock market; the concept felt stacked against me. It has become my mission to share my perspective because this is not something that a white man can teach our community; their level of understanding of the market starts in a very different place. Their privilege makes it almost impossible for them to empathize with where we are starting from. That becomes very evident when we examine the disparity between white people who invest and people of color who invest. I have the answers you are looking for with a relatable perspective regarding the start of your stock market journey.

After top literary agent Johanna Castillo and book publisher Krishan Trotman from Hachette Book Group took on Wealth Warrior, they approached me with a book deal, and here is what they said based on their experience with my course.

"I was so impressed by Linda and her work when I took her class last Fall that I knew immediately that we needed to get her message out into the world! It would be an absolute honor, personally and professionally, to support what she’s doing to empower Latinx, BIPOC, children of immigrants, and all disenfranchised communities in building wealth." -Krishan Trotman, Legacy Lit/ Hachette Book Group.

"This is a book that is desperately needed in the USA, especially with Latinx Spanish language readers, and Linda's Message of developing financial literacy and generational wealth is so needed, and I have no doubt it will find an audience in Spanish, making it required reading." - Edward Benites, Rayo/HarperCollins Español.

The book is being translated into Spanish by HarperCollins for distribution in April 2024. The book is the perfect companion for the course. While the course goes deeper and gives you direct contact with me, it is the ideal place to start.

"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."

-Benjamin Franklin

I believe the first and most crucial step to investing is investing in yourself. I witnessed a massive change in my mindset as soon as I started to up-level my content intake. I invested in educators that I resonated with and provided valuable information.

But that wasn't always easy; I was in a complete lack mentality and often unable to make the space for money to present itself. I have been homeless, couch surfing with gracious folks. I was in gangs looking for belonging and became a mother at 14, looking for love. I had a secret drug addiction that almost destroyed my life. I grew up with an alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother. I had every reason to give up, and after exhaustion with all the trauma I was facing, I tried to give up. I attempted three times, but I am still here for a reason beyond me.

I believe that when we make space for what we really want in life, we give the Universe an opportunity to deliver it. I believe that when things or experiences are given to us for free, it loses its value and power.

I believe that if you cannot invest in financial literacy with time or money, it will be extremely challenging to start investing in the stock market. I believe this should be worked on before investing in a course like this.

I understand if, at this point, this course may feel like a stretch to invest in. If you want to take it, set the intention, make the space, and see what happens.

In gratitude,

Linda
